10th Grade

10th grade is an important year. Your grades matter, your involvement matters, and the habits you develop now will carry you through junior and senior year. You don't need to have everything figured out, but you should start paying attention to what interests you, what you're good at, and where you might want to go after high school. Use this year to explore, get involved, and lay a strong foundation.

FALL

• Colleges look at sophomore year grades, so take them seriously. Read assignment instructions carefully and don't lose points on avoidable mistakes.

• SRJC classes are free for high school students. Online and evening options are available and can boost your GPA or get college requirements out of the way early. Talk to your counselors about whether you meet the dual enrollment requirements and what might be a good fit.

• Get involved and stick with it. Colleges and employers value students who show commitment. It doesn't matter if you demonstrate that through participation in a club, sport, or volunteer role.

• Start exploring. Attend Credo's College Knowledge Night in the fall and the Career & Job Fair in the spring. Visit colleges in person or virtually, or shadow someone in a career that interests you.

WINTER

• Review your first semester grades and ask teachers specifically what you can do to improve second semester. Make this a habit every year.

• Look into summer programs. Many have early deadlines.

SPRING

• Use CCGI to explore majors and careers that interest you.

• Visit a college campus for inspiration, even if you're not sure where you want to go.

SUMMER BEFORE 11TH GRADE

• Keep reading. Use school or public library lists to find books or magazines that genuinely interest you.

• Talk to adults you know about their careers. Informational conversations count as early career exploration.

• Visit nearby colleges, community colleges, and trade or technical schools to get a feel for your options.

• Register for the PSAT at Credo and take at least one practice test over the summer to prepare.

• Find a volunteer opportunity, internship, or summer job to build your resume and stay engaged.
